Prior experience in learning and development, virtual delivery and sales/agency training is a plus! The preferred candidate must have strong relationship building, project management and communication skills.

As a Training Specialist, you'll create, develop and conduct training classes and programs designed to build moderate to high level technical skills. This includes classroom, workshops and e-learning opportunities. You'll help design, develop and implement a broader curriculum or seminars as a subject matter authority for projects across regions or subject areas.

Job Description

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conducts technical or interaction skills training for all levels of associates. Schedules training courses and enrolls associates. Serves as a back-up to other instructors.

  • Provides continuous evaluation of existing and planned training programs by providing analysis, validation and impact against outlined objectives.

  • Designs and evaluates tools and measurement methods, determines return on investment and performance improvement metrics.

  • Modifies existing course content, presentation methods, utilization, based upon course evaluations and expertise. Designs and develop new training programs, courses and materials based on identified training needs and performance gaps. May act as a project leader and consultant in the design and development of training courses and programs.

  • Provides basic performance consulting and training needs analysis for assigned business units.

  • Serves as liaison to various Nationwide task forces and projects as assigned. May help evaluate outside vendor -training programs and delivery methods. May manage vendor relationships.

May perform other responsibilities as assigned.

Reporting Relationships: Reports to Manager.

Typical Skills and Experiences:

Education: Undergraduate degree desired. Prefer adult education related field or progress toward advanced degree.

License/Certification/Designation: Progress toward certification in appropriate business unit technical course work (CPCU, AIC, API, AU, etc.) desired. In some business units there may be additional regulatory requirements for specific certifications (i.e., FINRA series in Nationwide Financial). Progress toward learning certificate such as CPLP desired. Associates must acquire all required federal and/or state licenses/registrations within the time period designated by the business unit. Additional licenses/registrations may be required when new products and services are implemented. If an associate fails to acquire required licenses/registrations within the designated time period, the associate will be ineligible to continue in the position.

Experience: Typically requires six or more years in a related technical functional role or instructional design/delivery or other related training and development experience.

Knowledge, Abilities and Skills: Subject matter expertise related to training area of responsibility with broad technical knowledge beyond area of expertise. Solid understanding of adult education concepts, learning styles, evaluation methods and process/workflow development. Strong instructional design and eye for business. Excellent communication skills. Ability to explain sophisticated technical concepts and to analyze program results and recommend solutions. Strong group dynamics and interactive skills. Strong project management and consulting skills. Ability to set priorities, manage time, prioritize work and meet deadlines.

Other criteria, including leadership skills, competencies and experiences may take precedence.

Staffing exceptions to the above must be approved by the hiring manager's leader and HR Business Partner.
